Eating in Taiwan

Dining options in Taiwain

Let me just say this, Susann isn't a fan of rice, and Chinese food is pretty much near the bottom of her favs... but there we were in Taiwan, locally known as the ROC, Republic of China, and we needed food.

The Ximen Hedo Hotel Kaifeng had the most incredible spread...

... aside from the octopus ink dumplings, there was a lot to love. Dim sum, to salads, fruit to fried chicken and loads of different kinds of mango or bean stuffed steamed buns.

We had kung pao at the train station, a hamburger where the bun was made of sticky rice at the palace museum, and some great braised pork in Meokong from a street vendor with some small shared tables, and the incredible aroma of stinky tofu.

Part of our travel mantra is "on the cheap' and the the "C's", culture, country side, cathedrals (temples), castles (palaces), critters, and cuisine. Sometimes you really do not only have to eat like a local, but you certainly can enjoy it, too.
